    CS-What?

    Wed Jun 22, 2011

It’s that time of the year. The flowers are budding, the sun is finally shining and the street fests have begun. With all the great reminders of summer, it’s hard not to get excited to eat all the fresh food that is available in the Midwest.

    Dinner on the Farm

    Mon May 23, 2011

Farm dinners are designed to bring people together over a great meal. Whether you’re truly out on the farm or have found a suitable outdoor space in the city, Blue Plate can do the work for you while you enjoy the surroundings that elicit the nostalgia of the country. Talk to your sales team about designing a farm fresh, family style menu and a simple, yet beautiful décor.

The photo is from a farm dinner thrown by our executive chef, Paul Larson, last summer at his organic farm in Michigan.

Our Earth Day gift to you: Sustainability Sneak Peek

Blue Plate is constantly working to provide our clients with more and more options regarding sustainability.

On this Earth Day, we’re looking ahead to the next year and want to give you a sneak peek at upcoming initiatives. Look for these options no later than mid-summer.

On-site composting and recycling: While we are already compost and recycle in our main kitchen, you’ll soon be able to have all your food from events composted as well.

    Blue Plate Recycling Challenge

Earth Day is a great way to get people focused on doing something good for the environment. Everywhere you look, Earth Day is being promoted. From celebrity commercials to non-profit emails even to this blog, you can’t avoid this day. For the time surrounding Earth Day, a lot of great ideas are put into our heads of things we can do and these promotions really drive home the idea of keeping the Earth clean. However, Earth Day is only one day a year. How do you keep up the interest year round?

    Thoughts on Earth Hour

    Fri Mar 25, 2011

Earth Hour is this Saturday. In case you don’t know about it, it’s a great initiative that began in Australia to bring our focus on energy consumption. Each Earth Hour, the best attempt is made to complete dim skylines to visually show what just one act of turning the lights off can do to reduce the energy waste that exists. It began in 2007 and by last year 128 countries were participating. Last year, 90 millions Americans participated. It really makes you stop a moment and think about what just a small idea – turning the lights off – can mean when you look at it on a global scale.

This Monday Blue Plate's Kathleen Medina participated in "Chefs in the Classroom." This was the first year for this event hosted by the Healthy Schools Campaign. The day of, Chef Kathleen started by reading Little Pea to two groups of 40 kids ranging in grades from kindergarten to third grade at Henry Elementary School.

  • Cork ReHarvest

    Fri Feb 11, 2011

With the amount of wine we go through at events, finding an eco-friendly way to dispose of the corks seemed a natural fit for Blue Plate. This past spring, Whole Foods partnered with Cork ReHarvest making the delivery of corks into responsible hands easier than ever.

  • Let's Eat!

    Fri Feb 11, 2011

Each day, the chefs of Blue Plate are kind enough to provide the staff (and the delivery men who just happen to be around at lunchtime) with a delicious lunch that is cooked especially for us. Pancetta wrapped chicken, a delicious variety of salads, sandwich bars, roasted chicken with the classic mashed potatoes and corn, hot dogs with ALL the toppings. Stop me now, I could go on for days! My only complaint is about the extra miles I've had to start running to make sure I can still fit through doorways since I started here!
